Rush grew up in Gainesville, Georgia. He was ordained in 1973 by the Mecklenburg Presbytery. His formal education includes: BA, English, cum laude from Presbyterian College, Clinton, South Carolina; study at New College, University of Edinburgh, Scotland; Doctor of Ministry with honors from Union Theological Seminary, Virginia; and a post graduate fellowship at Duke University Divinity School.
 
Prior to arriving at Selwyn in 2002, he served as chaplain and assistant minister at Davidson College/Davidson College Presbyterian Church, as director of the Uniting Campus Ministry at Louisiana State University, as pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucker, Georgia (northeast Atlanta), and as pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Pensacola, Florida.
 
Rush has served on the boards of numerous community groups, is a member of the editorial board of Journal for Preachers, was a participant in the Pastor-Theologian program of the Center of Theological Inquiry in Princeton, New Jersey, and has held leadership roles in several Presbytery and General Assembly committees.
 
Rush and wife, Debbie, have two adult children.

Lori Archer Raible has served the congregation of Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church since 2008. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University where she was a member of the Cross-country and Track and Field teams. She earned her Masters of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary of Charlotte, in 2006.
 
Lori is passionately involved with the leadership of NEXT Church, serving on the strategy team and previously serving as a Co-Chair for the movement. NEXT Church seeks to connect and equip the leaders of our denomination. Most recently, she has collaborated in the planning of TRENT@Montreat, a national conference designed to support the newly ordained in congregational ministry and a regional symposium to connect and equip elders within the Charlotte Presbytery.
 
Lori is currently a member of the Board of Trustees at Union Presbyterian Seminary. In conjunction with her call to Selwyn, she also enjoys preaching and writing for various organizations and publications.
 
Lori’s favorite pastime is running and her favorite app, is ‘find my i.Phone. Her favorite people are her husband, Rob, and their two children, Joe and Maeve.

Mary Bowman, Associate for Mission

She serves as the part-time Associate Pastor for Mission. She grew up in Columbus, Ohio but has been a North Carolinian since her days as a student at UNC-Chapel Hill.  Before graduating from seminary, Mary worked in development and student life at Duke, Queens, UNC-Charlotte, and UNC-Chapel Hill.  She completed her Masters of Divinity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, while also taking classes at Union Theological Seminary.  She is an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte and has also served as a Stephen Minister there. She currently serves on the board of Childcare Resources, Inc.

Mary has lived in Charlotte for over 25 years with her husband and two sons.  
She enjoys walking and hiking with friends, reading, learning to garden and the outdoors.

Kim Lee, Director of Children's & Family Ministries

Kim serves as part-time Director of Children's and Family Ministries. Kim is a graduate of Union Presbyterian Seminary Charlotte. Before arriving at Selwyn, she served as the Director of Spiritual Formation at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian from 2007 to early 2015. Prior to that Kim served as a lead teacher in their Weekday School for fourteen years.

Kim is a native Charlottean, having grown up at Covenant Presbyterian Church. She and her husband, Rick, have an adult son. Kim loves stories any way she can get them -- books, movies, songs or spoken. She also enjoys frequent walks along the greenway with her golden retrievers, Norton & Tilly.

Jay Masanotti, Youth Director

Jay was an East-coast kid, having been born in Georgia, raised in New York and Pennsylvania until his early teens, only to return to Atlanta in 1993. He received his BS in Youth Ministry & Bible and Theology from Lee University in Cleveland, TN.

Jay moved to Charlotte shortly after graduating to serve as the camp director and skate team chaplain with SouthTown Riders, a para-church organization that ministered through wakeboarding and skateboarding in Fort Mill, SC.

Jay received his Master's in Teaching (MAT) at Queen’s University while simultaneously teaching at Trinity Episcopal School in Uptown Charlotte. His 9 years of teaching ultimately led him back to his original calling to work in youth ministry.

In his free time, Jay is a DJ, an actor, DIYer and full-time admirer of his wife, Jessica, and their daughter, Amelia Rose.

Fred Spano, Director of Music

Fred's formal education includes a B.A. in music education (piano concentration) from William Penn University in Iowa, a Master of Music in Music Education from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey; and a Ph.D. in Choral Music Education from Florida State University (2002). He has taught K-12 general/choral music in the US s well as in international schools in Iraq and Ecuador, and has been teaching in higher education since 2002.

Fred has served several churches during his career including Director of Music at First United Methodist Church of Martin in Tennessee, and Pisgah United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, staff choral teacher at Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton, and Children's Choir Director at Flemington Presbyterian Church in Flemington, New Jersey.

Fred is the Associate Chair for the Department of Music at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, as well as Associate Professor of Music Education. Fred is also an active researcher, and teaches courses in choral and general music methods, supervises student teachers, and is active in the choral community adjudicating and conducting honor choirs in and around Charlotte.

Gay Pappin, Organist

Selwyn's organist since the autumn of 2017 is Gay Pappin. She grew up in Arkansas and graduated from Ouchita Baptist University with a degree in music education, and later received a master's degree and doctorate in music from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

Gay has played organ and piano in churches all of her youth and adult life, most recently in Charlotte at Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church and previously at the Christian Science congregation on Morehead. She is employed as administrator at the Southern Park Music School on Park Road, where she previously taught piano and organ.

Active in the Charlotte chapter of the American Guild of Organists, Gay has held leadership positions including Dean and member of the Stigall Scholarship committee and registrar for the 2015 Regional Conference.

Her husband is Joe Pappin, a retired professor of philosophy and formerly dean of the Lancaster campus of the University of South Carolina. They have two adult children and are also grandparents.

Jess joined the SAPC staff in the spring of 2017. She grew up in Blythewood, SC, and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelors in Visual Communications & Graphic Design.

Jess has served in various industries as a graphic designer, art director and marketing director over the past 13 years. For the past 11 years, she has worked at Trinity Episcopal School in Charlotte, most recently & currently as the Visual Communications Manager.

Jess is married to SAPC's youth director Jay Masanotti and they have a precious daughter, Amelia Rose. In her free time, Jess runs her own private chef company & blog, The Freckled Fork.
