Montreat Retreat

Montreat Congregational Retreat

Every other spring, members and friends of Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church gather in the mountains of Montreat Conference Center for one of the most meaningful weekends in the life of our church, our Congregational Retreat.

The 2026 retreat, held April 24–26, brought together all ages and stages from both campuses for a weekend of worship, rest, laughter, learning, and deep connection in the beautiful setting of Montreat, North Carolina.

2026 Retreat Theme

By Still Waters: God’s Presence for Our Problems

Throughout the weekend, participants journeyed through Psalm 23, exploring how these ancient words continue to offer hope, restoration, and peace amid the complexities of modern life. Together, we reflected on God’s steady presence through seasons of uncertainty, wandering, mercy, and homecoming, led always by the Good Shepherd toward still waters.

What Makes Montreat Special

The Montreat Retreat continues to be a beloved tradition at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, offering space to step away from the pace of everyday life and reconnect with God and one another.

Weekend highlights included:

  • Intergenerational worship and teaching
  • Programming for children, youth, and adults
  • Childcare for infants and toddlers
  • Time for hiking, resting, porch conversations, and exploring nearby Black Mountain
  • Our annual Saturday Barn Dance night  with BBQ & Bluegrass
  • Opportunities to rest, play, pray, and deepen relationships across our church family

From Friday evening’s opening gathering to Sunday morning worship, the retreat once again became a place where friendships deepened, faith was renewed, and meaningful memories were made together.
