Mission Involvement
Selwyn members participate in a variety of activities supported by the Mission Group. Some of these are:
- A Place of Hopes ~ works with the children of Cameroon, Africa who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. Selwyn members provide support and needed items.
- Crisis Assistance Ministry ~ provides emergency financial assistance for housing and utilities. Members volunteer to screen applicants at Crisis’ facility.
- CROP Walk ~ raises money and awareness to address issues of hunger locally and abroad. Members participate in the walk and fund raising.
- Habitat for Humanity ~ builds affordable housing for low income families. Members volunteer in a variety of ways including construction and donations of time and items for the Habitat ReStore.
- Loaves and Fishes ~ provides food to families through the local pantries. Members participate in semiannual food drives.
- Mecklenburg Ministries ~ promotes interfaith relationship, fosters racial and ethnic understanding, and inspires collaboration to address social issues. Members participate in a variety of activities and services.
- Mission Christmas Tree ~ members offer special Christmas gifts for children, families, and individuals served by our partner ministry groups.
- Montclaire Elementary School ~ Selwyn recruits volunteers to help teachers and tutor students for this high poverty school. Volunteers are also needed for the summer Montclaire Freedom School.
- Room in the Inn ~ Selwyn hosts groups of 10 -12 homeless neighbors through Urban Ministry every Monday evening from December through March. Members volunteer to prepare food, assist with transportation, and offer hospitality.
- Urban Ministry Center ~ members volunteer to go to the Center to prepare and serve lemonade to our homeless neighbors on designated dates.
