Mission:
What we are called to
do
We are called to
animate the teachings of the Gospels, making them a transforming force for
social and individual change. Our goal is a more receptive, open and
healthy Christian community founded on truth and light. We offer refuge to
those in need, and an alternative to the primary message of the world today.
We seek
to:
-
Increase
social awareness and responsibility by fostering understanding of social
issues, and seeking ways to respond to human need and impact meaningful
social outcomes;
-
Embrace
diversity by demonstrating a loving tolerance of and respect for all people;
and
-
Foster
individual spiritual growth by providing a nurturing environment in which to
learn, study, question, struggle and worship.
Style of life:
Characteristic of our
living and doing
Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church
fosters a unique "Selwyn Spirit" of life and action by:
- Engaging lay members in
congregational care
- Connecting the interests and
talents of our members with opportunities to serve God
- Serving our community,
nation and world through mission projects
- Nurturing our membership
individually and collectively
- Welcoming newcomers to our
church family; and
- Seeking the truth that "we
too may live a new life." (Romans 6:4)
